[PodcastMN] interesting perspective on the digital revolution

i think that's the catch-22. because ultimately for it to be large enough
to support your lifestyle, one would have to cultivate/maintain
relationships with so many parties that it wouldn't be possible without
someone in the middle. this is less true with media in general now. but it
is especially true with touring.
can you imagine if say, the booking agent at the dakota had to personally
select artists from their myspace pages and then try to contact them to
arrange tour dates all personally? even at a local level, guys who books
shows are so overly inundated with requests that it's not humanly possible
to go through them all. it would never happen.
same with radio stations.
i think also that the notion that bands can record themselves now and that
the quality is comparable to what you get in a studio is really naive. i
think there are a few people out there who are musicians and really talented
engineers, but there are less of them than you would think. engineering is
an art unto itself. i like to think of myself as an engineer. but when you
compare things that i have recorded with that of say my boyfriend (who has
been a professional engineer for over 20 years), there is no comparison.
you can't bottle up all that experience and make an mp3 out of it.
did i mention that i just got an ipod? my first one. my biggest
complaint? the sound quality is awful.
i have no idea how all of this is going to unfold, but it is going to be
very interesting. to be sure.
